Bears Win a Close Game Against Twinsburg 23 to 22

The 8th Grade Boys Football Team won the 3rd place playoff game in the Suburban League yesterday against Twinsburg, 23 to 22.  This was a hard fought game as the ground game for the Bears won it in the second half.

Several key players for Twinsburg were benched in the first half.  This allowed the Bears to jump out to an 8 to 0 lead.  Simon Antonio caught a 15 yard touchdown pass from Joey Marousek.  This was followed by a 2 point conversion run by Joey Marousek.  Other key plays during the drive was a 30 yard run by Joey Marousek and a 25 yard catch and run by Simon Antonio.

The defense got the ball back with a crushing sack by Jordan Pagano which caused a fumble and a recovery by Joe Forcht.  The Bears scored again with a 17 yard touchdown run by Simon Antonio.  This was followed by a 2 point conversion pass from Joey Marousek to Brady Humble.  Another key play was an 18 yard run by Hunter Kupniewski.  This gave the Bears a 16 to 0 lead.

The defense stayed strong the rest of the second quarter with several outstanding plays.  Joe Ibrahim tackled the Twinsburg running back for a 2 yard loss.  Michael Singer sacked the quarterback for an 8 yard loss.  And Ethan Butler tackled the running quarterback for a 6 yard loss. The Bears went into halftime up 16 to 0.

The third quarter was all Twinsburg as the starting quarterback and running back were put back in to the game.  They scored on two successive offensive series to make the score 16 to 14.  All the momentum was going Twinsburg’s way.

The Bears started the fourth quarter with the ball and put together an impressive drive behind strong runs by Riley Knurek (16 yards) and Simon Antonio (24 yards, 6 yards & 8 yards).  Joey Marousek finished the 4 minute drive with a bruising 4 yard touchdown run.  Zack Peterjohn kicked the extra point to give the Bears a 23 to 14 lead with 4 minutes left in the game.

Twinsburg scored quickly and converted the 2 point play to make the score 23 to 22 with 2 minutes left in the game.  The Bears needed one first down to clinch the game.  Simon Antonio came through again with a 9 yard run on third down and 7 to clinch the game for the Bears.

The 8th Grade Boys Football team finished a successful season 5 and 2 and the “B” team finished 1 and 1.  Congratulations to the team for a 3rd place finish in the Suburban League.  Good Luck to the boys as they move on to High School Football.
