On Saturday, February 10th, the Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team participated in the Suburban League Conference Championships at Brecksville-Broadview Height High School. The Lady Bears came in 2nd place with 136.45 points behind powerhouse Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. Hudson took took 3rd (135.85), Stow took 4th (134.05), Wadsworth was 5th (131.5), followed by Aurora, Cuyahoga Falls, Twinsburg and Highland.
Freshman Mya Costello was named the Suburban League Conference MVP! She took 1st place all-around with a personal best of 36.2. She put up a huge 9.5 on vault that earned her second place. She placed 5th on bars, 2nd on beam, and 4th on floor with a personal best of 9.1. Mya also broke the school vault record this year! This is the second time she received a 9.5, breaking the record of 9.425 set by Bethany Neczypor in 2005.
Sophomore Avery Keller also had a great competition. She tied for 6th on the vault and placed 5th on beam.
Freshman Emily Shuck put up two personal bests on beam (8.35) and floor (8.55).
Freshman Julia Falcioni also put up a personal best on floor with an 8.7 and Senior Julie Knapik put up a personal best of 8.25 on vault. Sophomore Peyton Schrader and Freshman Jordan Starre both put up personal bests of 8.45 on vault. Schrader also put up her best bar score (8.05).
The Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team will next compete in the OHSAA Sectionals on Sunday, February 18th at West Geauga. The top 4 teams will move on to Districts as well as the top 12 individuals on each event and in the all-around.
