Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Varsity Gymnastics OHSAA State Tournament Results: 6th Place for Lady Bears, Mya Costello and Avery Keller

On Friday, March 2nd, the Lady Bears took 6th place as a team in the State Tournament.  We achieved our highest team score of the season with a 140.625!  A 1.275 improvement from Districts!  We were only 0.2 out of 5th place (Lewis Center Olentangy) and 0.625 out of 4th place (Rocky River Magnificat).

On team day, we had several person bests!  Freshman Mya Costello achieved her personal best of 9.075 on bars and 9.15 on floor. Sophomore Avery Keller achieved a personal best on vault, scoring a huge 9.325. Freshman Hannah Haffner also achieved a personal best on bars, scoring an 8.525.  Mya and Avery also hit their best all-arounds of the season!  Mya scored a 36.75 and Avery scored a 36.1.

We hit our season high on bars, scoring a 34.625.  We also hit our season high on vault, scoring a 36.375.  Our ladies were ranked 3rd on the vault out of all of the teams in the state!  It was phenomenal!

On Saturday, March 3rd, we came back for individual competition.  Freshman Mya Costello was vying for vault, bars and all-around; Sophomore Avery Keller on bars, floor and all-around.  We started on the vault where Mya put up a huge 9.45!  Her second highest score of the season.  The score ended up holding throughout the competition and she wound up placing 6th in the State on this event!  Next we went to bars where Avery did her thing.  She had a solid routine scoring a 9.1!  Her score also held up, and she wound up placing 6th in the State!!  Both girls had solid beam and floor performances as well.  Mya achieved a personal best beam with a 9.2.  Both girls hit their second highest all-arounds of the season: Mya (36.525) and Avery (36.0).  Mya narrowly missed the podium, taking 7th place all-around.  Avery ended up 14th in the all-around, only 0.175 out of 10th.  Out of 36 girls on each event and in the all-around, these finishes are huge!!!

Both Avery and Mya were named members of the All-State team as well.

We are so proud of ALL of the Lady Bears!!  What a spectacular season!!  This will not be the last you see of these ladies!
