The North Royalton BEARS swim team traveled to Wooster Saturday, February 13th, to compete in the Sectional Swim Meet. This is the first of 3 Championship Meets the high schools compete in, Sectionals, Districts and States. With this year proving extremely challenging, our swimmers rose to the occasion and certainly made their presence known in the water!
All 3 of the boys relays, 200 Medley, 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle came in 1st place! With 8 swimmers on the 3 relays in different combinations, Coach Mike Milliken has plenty of talent to secure victory! These 8 swimmers are qualified to move onto the District Swim Meet Saturday February 20th, at the Spire Institute for their relay performance and individual events. Individually, the boys continued to impress, achieving best times in some cases and out touching the competition in others. Team Captain Luca Aldewereld outdid his previous tied team record with Mason Romstadt in the 50 Freestyle, achieving a new team record of 21.39 seconds. He has been swimming the past month with a knee injury, so he really pushed himself to achieve this level of competition. These achievements came from both Aldewereld brothers, Luca and Vincent for the 50 and 100 Freestyle events. Aidan Florio for his 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breastroke. Yaro Hapysuk for his 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly.
Anthony Kacki for his 200 and 500 Freestyle.Connor McCann for his 100 Backstroke event. Mitchell Montag for his 200 and 100 Freestyle event. Nolan Romstadt for his 50 and 100 Freestyle events.
The girls did their best and proved successful! Their 200 Medley relay aimed at success and achieved it, qualifying for the District Swim Meet. Captain and Senior Mariam Zayour, a 4 year swimmer for North Royalton Swimming, qualified for both of her individual events. She will be swimming the 200 Individual Medley and the 500 Freestyle at the District Meet. Hope Campbell qualified for her 100 Butterfly event. Both Mariam and Hope are joined by Paige Patterson and Maram Zayour on the 200 Medley Relay.
This year we are sending 2 pairs of siblings to the Districts, talk about a swim family! Truly, this year’s team has been a huge family, pulling through the difficult practices, the challenging circumstances and the changes to our normal way of competition and training. We are so very proud to send these 12 talented, fast and amazing swimmers to represent North Royalton Excellence at the District Swim Meet! Our coaches have trained them well and prepared them for what comes next and they deserve a huge round of applause, Head Coach Mike Milliken and Assistant Coaches, Stephanie Weber and Deanna Milliken. GO BEARS!
