On Saturday May 11th, the Boys Freshman Baseball Team hosted a doubleheader with Holy Name High School on a sunny, but cool day. The Bears had another opportunity to play on the Varsity Field. In game two, the Bears pounded out fourteen hits and beat Holy Name 14 to 9.
Holy Name took the early lead in the first inning and scored three runs. The Bears came back in the bottom of the first and scored two runs. Billy LoBello lead off with a walk and stole second base. Jake Keitlen followed with walk. David Hicks singled and LoBello scored. Michael Bodzenta singled and Keitlen scored. Holy Name led 3-2.
Holy Name added to their lead by scoring one run in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning. But the Bears rallied in the bottom of the third and scored five runs with two outs. Bodzenta walked, Jack Boyko walked, and Mason Gulitz was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Nick Colabianchi walked to bring in the first run and LoBello followed with triple to right to clear bases and came home on a throwing error by Holy Name. The Bears took the lead 7-6.
The Bears added to their lead in the fifth inning when they scored two more runs. Colabianchi singled and stole second base. LoBello singled and Colabianchi scored and LoBello went to second on the throw. Hicks singled and LoBello scored. Bears led 9-6.
In the six inning, Holy Name scored two runs but the Bears scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth when the Bears batted through the line-up. Gulitz singled and moved to second when Colabianchi singled. LoBello singled and Gulitz was able to score on an error by Holy Name’s shortstop. Keitlen singled Colabianchi and LoBello scored. Hicks walked and Jacob Bellflower singled and Keitlen and Hicks scored. The Bears led 14-8.
Holy Name scored a run in the seventh and the Bears won 14-9.
Thomas Cooney pitched a third of the first inning, giving up three runs, no hits and five walks. Vince Koprowski pitched the next two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits, four strikeouts and two walks. Michael Bodzenta pitched the next two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Tyler Collaros finished the last inning and two-thirds innings, giving up one run, one hit, and one walk.
The Bears offense was led by, LoBello, who went three for five including a triple, four rbi’s, four runs scored and a stolen base. Keitlen had two hits with a double, two rbi’s, and two runs scored. Hicks had three hits, one RBI and scored a run. Colabianchi had two hits, one RBI’s, three runs scored and a stolen base.
The Boys Freshman Baseball Team record is now at 11 wins and 9 losses. Come cheer them on as they travel to Revere High School on Tuesday May 14th at 4:30 PM. GO BEARS!!
