On Saturday, April 13th, the Boys Freshmen Baseball Team hosted Brunswick High School for a doubleheader on a sunny, but cool and windy day. In game one, the Bears watched the game slip away early and could not recover in a 5-0 loss.
Brunswick took a two run lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but the Bears defense prevented more runs with two outs made at home plate.
The Bears didn’t get a hit until the bottom of the fifth inning when David Hicks singled.
Brunswick increased their lead when they scored three more runs in the top of the sixth with three hits, a walk and two errors. The Bears defense had another out at home when Brunswick tried to score from second on a hit to left field. Andrew Kortan threw a bullet to home and David Hicks applied the tag.
The Bears finished with four hits, two hits by Hicks and one each by Kortan and Jacob Bellflower.
Jack Boyko went four innings on the mound for the Bears, giving up two runs on five hits, one strike out, no walks and took the loss. Mike Bodzenta pitched the last three innings giving up three runs (two earned), five hits, two strike outs and 3 walks.
The Boys Freshman Baseball Team record is now at 4 win and 4 losses. Come cheer them on as they host Stow-Munroe High School on Tuesday April 16th at 4:30 PM. GO BEARS!!
