On Friday April 9th, the Boys JV Baseball Team traveled to Copley High School. The Bears win their fifth game of the year and defeated Copley 14 to 1.
The Bears started early again and scored ten runs in the first inning with two outs. Zach Bitterman singled to left. Joey Escano singled to left and Bitterman advanced to third base. Joe Schmidt reached on an error, Bitterman scored and Escano advanced to second. Kyan Davis doubled and Escano and Schmidt scored. Nate Sawyer doubled and Davis scored. Chris Cooper singled and Sawyer scored. Dylan Crowe singled and Cooper advanced to second. Cody Miller walked to load the bases. After a couple of errors by Copley, Cooper and Crowe scored and Miller advanced to third. Alex Trivonovich singled and Miller scored. Bitterman singled and Trivonovich scored. After Escano was hit by a pitch, Schmidt singled and Bitterman scored. Bears lead 10 – 0.
In the bottom of the second, Copley got on the scoreboard on a couple of hits and a Bear error. Bears lead 10 – 1.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Bears added four more runs. Miller singled and stole second. Trivonovich singled and Miller scored. Escano singled and Trivonovich scored. Schmidt singled and Escano scored. Davis reached on an error by the right fielder and Schmidt scored. Bears lead 14 – 1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Copley was able to get a couple runners on base, but the Bears defense were able to turn a double play to end the game. Bears win 14 – 1.
The Bears had very good performance by the starting pitcher Garrett Polverine. Garrett pitched a complete game and only allowed one run. Garrett allowed 4 hits and had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.
