On Saturday, January 11th, the Boys Varsity Basketball Team hosted Mayfield High School. The Bears defeated the Wildcats 67 to 63 despite cold shooting in the first half. Down 35 to 29 at halftime, the Bears played a solid third quarter with two big runs of 7 to 0 and 10 to 2. Jordan Garland led the way with 19 points and kept the Bears in the game in the first half with scoring and rebounding.
The Bears struggled mightily shooting 10% from the three point line in the first half. However, the second half was a different story and the shooting touch came back as the Bears shot 53%. With 2:44 to go, the score was tied 61 to 61 and the game was still in question. Nick Evanko made a layup to push the lead to 2 with 2:09 to go. Ethan Toppin made a laypu to push the lead to 4 with 1 minute to go. Jordan Garland made another layup to push the lead to 6 with 17.6 seconds to go. The defense held off the Wildcats and the Bears win!
Also scoring for the Bears were Omar Abuhamdeh with 12 points, Ethan Toppin and Justin Penkalski with 9 points each, Daylin Riley with 7 points, Nick Evanko with 6 points, Killian O’Callahan with 3 points and Nate Sprecher with 2 points.
The Boys Varsity Basketball Team record is now at 11 wins and 1 loss. The Bears get a needed break after playing 3 games in 5 days. Come cheer them on as they travel to take on Cuyahoga Falls High School on Friday, January 17th at 7:30 PM. GO BEARS!!
