On Friday, October 17th, the Boys Varsity Football Team traveled to take on Olmsted Falls High School in the 2nd round of the OHSAA Football Playoffs. The Bears shocked and defeated the Bulldogs in a thrilling double overtime classic 33 to 27. Mathieu Van Steenlandt caught a 7 yard touchdown pass from Michael Piazza in the second overtime to win the game. The Bears celebrated in the end zone with NoRo Nation!

The Bears are 22nd-seeded in the region and have now won two straight overtime playoff games against higher ranked teams. The Bulldogs game in 6th-seeded and last week the Bears defeated 11th-seeded Amherst Steele. The Bears will move on to the 3rd round to take on 3rd-seeded Avon Lake who defeated Wadsworth 30 to 7.

The Bears started fast as Zadan Abuhamdeh scampered 61 yards to give the Bears a 7 to 0 lead. The Bulldogs would answer back on the next two drives to take a 13 to 7 lead.

In the second quarter, the Bears would respond and score twice. Zadan Abuhamdeh would score another rushing touchdown and his brother, Omar Abuhamdeh would score on a 68 yard touchdown catch from Michael Piazza. The Bears were up 20 to 13 at halftime.

The Bulldogs would score on the first drive of the second half to tie the game. However, the rest of the game would be all about the defenses. The Bulldogs would attempt several field goals, but come up empty with a miss and a block by the Bears.

In the first overtime, Michael Piazza would plunge into the end zone on a 1 yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs would answer back and tie the game.

In the second overtime, the Bulldogs would get the ball first. Dante Ciulli would sack the quarterback and force a long third down. The Bulldogs would then pass and the Bears Jacob Lipcheck intercepted the ball. The Bears now had a chance to win the game. Not long after, Michael Piazza would find Matthieu Van Steenlandt in the end zone to give the Bears the victory. Let the celebration begin.

The Boys Football Team is now at 2 wins and 6 losses. The Bears will face a tough 3rd-Seeded Avon Lake team on Friday, October 23rd at 7:00 PM. GO BEARS!!
