On Friday, November 1st, the Boys Varsity Football Team hosted Nordonia High School on “Senior Night” for their last game of the 2019 Season. The Bears started slow, made it a game and then faded at the end. The Bears lost to the Knights 56 to 26.

In the first quarter, the Knights scored twice on a 21 yard touchdown pass and a 63 yard touchdown run. A trick play on an extra point that resulted in the holder throwing a pass for a 2 point conversion gave the Knights a 15 to 0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bears offense punted twice.

In the second quarter, the Bears offense made it a game and scored 3 times. Nick Evanko scored on a 5 yard touchdown pass from Michael Piazza. Zak Peterjohn converted the extra point and the score was 15 to 7. The Bears defense would stop the Knights on fourth down to give the offense the ball back. The Bears would drive right down the field and Michael Piazza would score on an 8 yard touchdown run. The Bears would go for two and did not convert to make the score 15 to 13. Three minutes later, the Knights would score on a 6 yard touchdown run to make the score 22 to 13. With 51 seconds left, Killian O’Callahan would stretch out and make a fantastic catch on a 29 yard touchdown pass from Michael Piazza. Peterjohn would make the extra point and the Bears were only down 22 to 20 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Knights would score on a 40 yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 29 to 20. Once again, the Bears offense would keep the game close. This time on a 12 play, 5 minute drive that ended with a 3 yard touchdown run by Simon Antonio. The Knights would block the extra point and the score would be 29 to 26.

The fourth quarter was dominated on both sides of the ball by the Knights as they scored four times in a row to put the game out of reach for the Bears. The final score was the Knights 56 to the Bears 26.

The Bears offense was led by Simon Antonio who rushed for 110 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown. Nick Evanko finished with 5 catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Michael Piazza passed for 109 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown as well.

On the defensive side, Nicholas Trottnow, Michael Camardo and Killian O’Callahan (x2) had tackles for a loss. Andrew Kortan had a pass deflection. Rory O’Malley was all over the field making tackles as well.

The Boys Varsity Football Team finished the 2019 season with a record of 4 wins and 6 losses. Congratulations to our Seniors who gave everything they had to the program.
