On Saturday, October 26th, the Boys Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Byers Field to take on the #1 nationally ranked St. Ignatius High School in the OHSAA District Final. The rain was pouring, the wind was blowing and the fans came out in force to cheer their respective teams on. The Bears would battle but come up short and lose to St. Ignatius 4 to 1.
St. Ignatius would score early to take a 1 to 0 lead, but both defenses held strong and would shut each other out the rest of the way in the first half. Scoring chances were minimal.
The Bears would finally break through as Kyle Evanko was fouled in the box. Hayden Haffner would convert the penalty kick to tie the game 1 to 1. Unfortunately, St. Ignatius would convert their own penalty kick a minute later to take a 2 to 1 lead. The Bears would keep fighting, but St. Ignatius would score two more goals and win the game 4 to 1.
The Boys Varsity Soccer Team finishes a very successful season with a record of 15 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. This record would include an undefeated, undisputed Suburban League Conference National Division record of 7 wins and 0 losses for back to back championship seasons. The Bears would also finish the season ranked #13 in the final poll for the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association. The Bears were also ranked as high as #6 in the Max Preps State of Ohio Division I poll and as high as #37 in the Max Preps National poll. Congrats to our team for an awesome season!
