On Tuesday, December 11th, the Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team hosted a meet against Stow, Hudson, Twinsburg and Walsh to start their 2018-19 season. The Bears did not compete their full line-up and had a lot of Freshmen making their debut. Although their were a few hiccups, the Bears took 3rd place as a team. Hudson took 1st, Stow took 2nd, Twinsburg was 4th and Walsh did not have enough girls to qualify for a team score.
This year, the Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team has several new members including Junior Nikki Kuchta, Sophomore Paige Hadchiti, and Freshmen Molly Benefiel, Diana Burban, Abbey Cigoi, Makayla Dzurik, Allee Pagan, Emy Pagan, Kaylin Paulozzi, Danica Svilar and Allyson Talpas. This is in addition to the returning Juniors Avery Keller, Peyton Schrader, Ashley Sekeres and Bella Zimmerman and returning Sophomores Mya Costello, Julia Falcioni, Hannah Haffner, Ana Jablonsky, Emily Shuck, Jordan Starre and Kylie Zabielski. With a whopping 22 gymnasts, the Bears have added another Assistant Coach, Niki Hill.
Makayla Dzurik and Abbey Cigoi both started their season with flipping vaults and Diana Burban debuted a solid floor routine. Standout freshman Molly Benefiel took 1st place on vault with a layout yurchenko that scored a 9.35. She also took 6th in the all-around. Sophomore Hannah Haffner came out of the gates on fire. She took 2nd place on vault and beam and 4th in the all-around. Sophomore Jordan Starre competed 3 events, including a strong showing on beam. Juniors Peyton Schrader and Ashley Sekeres also competed, showing off some new skills.
The Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team will next participate in the Beauty and Beast Meet against reigning state champions Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School on Thursday, December 13th. GO BEARS!!
