On Saturday, December 22nd, the Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team traveled to Avon to take on Westlake High School, Berea-Midpark High School and Avon High School. Although the Bears still did not compete a full line-up, Junior Avery Keller and Sophomores Mya Costello, Julia Falcioni and Emily Shuck returned to the lineup. The Bears placed 1st as a team, scoring a 141.35, higher than any competition in the last year. Westlake took 2nd, Berea-Midpark 3rd and Avon took 4th
Mya Costello dominated the competition by taking 1st on vault, beam, floor and all-around, and 2nd place on bars. Mya also broke 2 school records. She scored a 9.55 on floor breaking the record set by Kristina Jacobs in 2005 and a 37.3 all-around, breaking the record set by Bethany Neczypor in 2005. Avery Keller took home the win on uneven bars, as well as taking 2nd on floor and all-around, tying for 4th on beam, and taking 5th on vault. Right behind her was sophomore Hannah Haffner who took 3rd on vault (personal best of 9.15) and all-around (personal best of 35.15), as well as tied for 3rd on bars. Hannah also tied for 4th on floor and took 5th on beam. Emily Shuck took 2nd place on beam with a personal best of 8.8. Julia Falcioni also had a solid beam routine and tied for 4th with her teammate, Avery.
The Girls Varsity Gymnastics Team next competition is Saturday January 5th at 6:00pm at Gymnastics World in Broadview Heights. This will be the first annual, Battle for a Cause against Brunswick. There will be no admission charge, but donations will be accepted for the teams’ charity. This is going to be a fun, light hearted meet and hope all of NORO Nation will show up wearing as much purple as they can. GO BEARS!!
